Our Review
For all the knocks critics get for being too harsh – they deserve it. Glancing down any film not directed by a multi award winning director that goes on for ever and attempts to deal with every single little emotional detail will bring up comment after comment slamming the movie.

Despite all the complaints of motion sickness from a jerky camera, a production budget that you find in your back pocket and a storyline that literally goes round in circles, the Blair Witch Project is a truly original movie.

The strangest thing is, the Blair Witch Project is more a peace of art that a horror movie. And yet it has more of a following of movie fans than critics. Still it’s there loss as it’s rare a film with the originality of the Blair Witch Project comes along. As has often been said “not all those with creativity have big budgets. And not all those with big budgets have creativity.”

Enough of my babbling though, let us move on to the plot. Heather Donahue heads into the woods with Joshua Leonard and Michael Williams to make a film about the legend of the Blair Witch that is suppose to haunt the woods outside of Burkittsville. But they soon get lost and things turn for the worst.

The film was sold to us as a documentary. The story is that after the three were killed and a year later their footage was found and slapped into a movie. Of course we started to get suspicious when the three appeared on all the chat shows the next week. Amazingly though, most people still think that the legend of the Blair Witch is true. Nice film and all but believe me – every single thing is fictional.

Amercing ourselves back in the movie however, there is a sense of missing information that adds to the atmosphere. The legend of the Blair Witch is never truly revealed. The cast give quite believable performances, obviously with most people walking out of the cinema still thinking it was a documentary.

Of course if you are just looking for a plain horror movie you will probably thinking – is the movie scary? Well despite watching it in the dark I have to say it wasn’t the scariest movie I have ever seen. That said I spent my childhood running round the woods with a camcorder so such trips are not unusual to me.

The Blair Witch Project can be scary if you let yourself slip into the movie. I have a different taste for horror than most so I am not going to say the movie isn’t scary for everyone. It really doesn’t matter though, whatever the Blair Wiccan Project is or isn’t, it’s worth a watch.
